Netflix closed the Squid Game: Breakout studio. It was the top of the 26-nation download list.

Developments in LinkedIn by several Netflix management confirmed that the company had closed the studio Boss Fight, which had developed Squid Game: Unleashed, and that Netflix had not yet responded.

Boss Fight revealed to the media in December 2024 that Squid Game: Breakout was developed for about two years, with a cumulative investment of about 100 R & D staff. While the exact number of full-time employees is not yet known, LinkedIN data indicate that the studio currently has about 80 employees. Whether these staff will be downsized or transferred to other teams in the Netflix game department remains unknown. Chief Executive Officer Boss Fight and co-founder David Rippi said on LinkedIn: “The news of the closure of the studio is fast. Thank all those who have come to care — indeed, it is sad news — but I remain sincerely grateful for our time in Netflix. Not only have we worked with good teams, but we have also built a number of proud games, in which Squid Game: Breakout came to the top in 26 countries.”

The director of Netflix Game Development, David Luman, added: “After more than 10 good years of Boss Fight (the final years of acquisition and incorporation into Netflix), the studio came to its final conclusion. I’m proud of all the team members, the creations and the games that have been released. I wish you could see the amazing projects that are not yet present! “The design director, Damien Schubert, lamented, “I can’t believe my journey to Boss Light is over. We’ve made a lot of great things in the last decade, but the most outrageous thing is that those behind the closed curtains will never see the sky.”

Netflix acquired Boss Fight in 2022, one of the most important early acquisitions of its media giants, and its game charts were also included in the workrooms of Next Games, Spry Fox and Night School Studies.
